We can truthfully say Soria “is close at hand”
given its proximity to several Spanish cities:
|
Madrid:
230 Kms |
|
Logroño:
105 Kms |
|
Burgos:
145 Km |
|
Cantabrian
Coast: 300 Kms |
| |
|
10.000 Km2 of historical memories,
artistic monuments and natural locations, spreading out over
the easternmost part of Castilla y
León.
River Duero, the main protagonist
of life in Soria, cuts across the region’s geography
through luxuriant pine forests, unveiling landscapes enclosing
deep rooted traditions.
Many writers and poets evoked
the charm and mystery of this land, which offers visitors
a vast array of possibilities all year round: |
|
In spring
and summer enjoy trekking
(GR6), picking mushrooms,
camomile tea, pennyroyal tea, or water
sports on the banks of the reservoir, diving, speleology,
horseback excursions etc. |
|
In autumn-winter: Nordic
skiing, fishing for
trout and crabs, and hunting,
on the trace of the most abundant species: deer, wild
boars and roe deer or red partridge, hares and wood pigeons
in terms of small game. |
Finally, a word about Soria, the capital.
The capital is a monument in itself,
a genuine treat for the eyesight and the palate. As regards
Soria’s gastronomy no
visitor should leave our lands without trying our roasts,
baked smoked trout, partridge, quail or our meat stew, topped
with our exquisite butter and sweets (mantecados), which are
renowned throughout the whole of Spain.
